“He Can Run Until 90, He’ll Never Win”: Costa Tears Into Cummings’ Political Ambitions

Monrovia, Liberia — Political commentator Henry Costa has cast a grim prediction over the political aspirations of Alexander B. Cummings, leader of Liberia’s Alternative National Congress (ANC), declaring that even if Cummings ran for president in every election until he turned 90 years old, he would “never win.”

Speaking on a popular talk-show ‘One-on-One With The Ceo’ on Spoon FM/TV, Sunday, October 26, 2025, Costa asserted that Cummings lacks the political appeal necessary to capture the support of ordinary Liberians. He argued that Cummings’ long absence from the country during his professional career in corporate America has distanced him from the people he now seeks to lead.

“Alex Cummings does not have the appeal. He’s been out of the country for most of his professional life—in fact, the entirety of his professional life,” Costa said. “He did wonderful things in corporate America, of which I’m proud as a Liberian… but Ellis Cummings has never shared that accomplishment, that success, with the Liberian people.”

Costa drew a contrast between Cummings and other public figures who, in his view, have made tangible contributions to Liberia. Addressing fellow broadcaster Stanton Witherspoon, Costa praised him for building a media platform that contributes to the country’s democratic development and accountability.

He further referenced Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, saying that true leadership and public admiration come from sharing one’s success with others.

“People don’t care about how successful you are if you don’t share that success with them,” Costa said, paraphrasing Dangote.

Costa criticized Cummings for advocating economic reform and industrial growth in Liberia despite, in his opinion, failing to invest personally in local development initiatives.

“Cummings wants to lecture us on how to build an economy… when you sit on a massive fortune, well over $100 million, you haven’t built one factory yet, you haven’t set up one farm yet,” Costa stated. “That’s why Cummings’ message does not resonate.”

Concluding his remarks, Costa said Cummings’ path to the presidency was “nonexistent” without divine intervention.

“Cummings will never be president,” he declared. “The pathway is just not there. That’s why I said it has to be of God for Cummings to become president of Liberia.”

Costa’s comments have sparked renewed debate among political observers about the challenges facing the ANC leader as he continues to position himself as an alternative to Liberia’s traditional political establishment.
