Grand Gedeh County Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue has come under public scrutiny following allegations that he threatened the life of one of his political opponents, Melvin Kamara, ahead of the 2029 senatorial elections.
Mr. Kamara, a vocal critic of Senator Pennue’s leadership, shared screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation purportedly between him and the Senator, in which threatening remarks were made. He captioned his post: “Y’all share this post let it reach the police. Zoe is threatening my family.” Kamara said Zoe has threatened to kill him if he does not back off.
The post has since drawn widespread attention, particularly from a group operating under the banner “Say No To Zoe,” which has been openly campaigning against the Senator’s re-election. The group accused Senator Pennue of overstaying at the Legislature without delivering tangible infrastructural development for the people of Grand Gedeh.
According to the group, Senator Pennue has instead resorted to what they described as “hand-to-mouth politics,” where cash handouts—often not exceeding L$500 per person—are used as temporary appeasement, leaving no sustainable benefits for the county.
The allegations come at a sensitive political moment, as Senator Pennue prepares to defend his seat amid growing dissatisfaction from sections of the Grand Gedeh electorate. Critics argue that the county remains underdeveloped despite years of legislative representation.
Efforts by reporters of Verity News to reach Senator Pennue for comments proved unsuccessful. Multiple calls placed to his official phone number went unanswered, and he did not respond to text messages sent via WhatsApp, the same medium through Pennue made the alleged threats as seen in the screenshots: +231777724322.
