The father of the 14-year-old girl allegedly raped by suspended Deputy Minister of Youth Development at the Ministry of youth and Sports, J. Bryant McGill, has publicly revealed attempts to silence his family through compromise.
The survivor father claimed that McGill personally approached him seeking forgiveness and urging him to “compromise” the case.
“He came to apologize. He wanted me to compromise,” the father said. “I have witnesses to prove everything I’m saying.”
The statement comes amid growing public outrage over the handling of the case involving the now-suspended deputy minister, who faces accusations of statutory rape a serious offense under Liberian law.
Civil society groups and women’s rights advocates have called for a transparent and impartial investigation, warning against political interference or attempts to intimidate the victim’s family.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police has maintained that there is no probable cause for the arrest of McGill. Moreover, LNP says the investigation remains active and that no final determination has yet been made.
