The Ministry of Health (MOH) has strengthened specialized healthcare services across Liberia with the delivery of advanced video colposcopy and endoscopy equipment to three major referral hospitals.
The equipment, comprising three video colposcopy units with stands, monitors, and high-definition cameras—was officially handed over to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center (JFK), C.B. Dunbar Hospital, and Redemption Hospital.
In addition, the JFK Medical Center received a fully equipped upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy tower, including cameras and scopes, aimed at improving diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Health Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto emphasized that the lack of modern diagnostic tools has long limited the delivery of specialized healthcare services in the country, particularly in women’s reproductive health.
She noted that the donation of the video colposcopy machines comes at a critical time, coinciding with Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, adding that cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Liberia.
According to Dr. Kpoto, the colposcopy equipment will significantly enhance cervical cancer screening programs nationwide, while the endoscopy system installed at JFK Medical Center will strengthen gastrointestinal diagnostics, biopsy services, and treatment, promoting evidence-based care.
In separate remarks, the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Directors of JFK Medical Center, C.B. Dunbar Hospital, and Redemption Hospital praised the government’s intervention, describing it as timely and vital to improving patient care and service delivery at their institutions.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Health’s broader strategy to modernize medical infrastructure and expand access to quality healthcare services across Liberia.
