Hope Restored: Sawken Parents Celebrate Safer Classrooms for Their Children, GOL Commences Work

By Patrick Teah, Jr.

GRAND KRU COUNTY — The people of Sawken in Electoral District #1 are celebrating a long-awaited moment of relief as construction finally begins on three new classrooms and two administrative offices at the Sawken Elementary School. The project, launched on November 27, 2025, follows years of persistent appeals from residents who have long struggled with deteriorating learning facilities.

For decades, students in Sawken have endured classrooms with leaking roofs, cracked walls, and unsafe floors that often worsened during the rainy season. Teachers, lacking dedicated office space, managed lessons and school records in makeshift conditions. Parents routinely sent their children to school with a sense of unease, worried about the structural stability of the buildings.

The intervention—funded through a US$10,000 allotment—marks a significant turning point for the community. Residents say the new classrooms will ease overcrowding, shield students from harsh weather, and provide teachers with a more functional environment. The addition of administrative offices is also expected to improve school operations and restore a sense of order that has been missing for years.

For Sawken and neighboring settlements, the project represents a long-promised commitment finally being fulfilled. Parents who once feared for their children’s safety now express hope that the school will soon become a place of comfort, stability, and meaningful instruction. Many believe the improved facilities will boost academic performance, enhance dignity, and encourage consistent school attendance.

Teachers welcomed the development as well, describing it as a major step toward better working conditions and more effective teaching.

With construction already underway, the new facilities are expected to transform the educational experience for hundreds of children. For a community that has endured years of neglect, the progress in Sawken stands as a powerful sign that their children’s education is beginning to receive the attention it deserves.
