Monrovia, Liberia: The House Committee Chair on Education, Representative Thomas Romeo Quioh, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, welcomed a delegation from the World Bank at his Capitol Building office on Capitol Hill.
The meeting was a follow-up to the recently concluded Joint Education Stakeholders Retreat held in Ganta.
According to a release issued by the House of Representatives, Rep. Quioh briefed the World Bank delegation on the successes of the retreat, which culminated in a nine-point resolution aimed at improving Liberia’s education sector.
He emphasized the importance of the World Bank’s continued involvement in the implementation of these resolutions and stressed the need to empower Liberian writers to localize educational content for students across the country.
The World Bank delegation highlighted ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Education, particularly through the “Getting to Best in Education” Project.
Speaking on behalf of the World Bank delegation, the head Alonso Sanchez said the initiative focuses on several development objectives to improve equitable access to early childhood education (ECE) and enhance teacher quality, particularly in disadvantaged counties.
The delegation provided an overview of the project’s five key components:
Namely; The Early Childhood Education Improvement: This component aims to enhance access to and quality of ECE in targeted counties through school improvement grants and community-based ECE programs.
2. The Teacher Training and Certification: Aims to increase the number of certified ECE and primary-level teachers in targeted counties through in-service teacher training programs.
3. The School Management and Accountability: Seeks to strengthen school-based management (SBM) and improve school monitoring and accountability systems to ensure higher educational standards.
4. The Equity, Efficiency, and Learning Outcomes: Focuses on addressing issues of equity and efficiency in the education system through results-based financing (RBF).
5. The Project Management and Coordination: Ensures effective project management, capacity building, and coordination across the sector to achieve better education outcomes.
The Sinoe Lawmaker expressed optimism about future collaboration with the World Bank and reiterated the importance of localizing educational content.
