House Introduces Bill to Establish Liberia National Police Trust Fund

Capitol Hill – A new bill aimed at creating a dedicated Trust Fund for the Liberia National Police (LNP) was introduced Thursday on the floor of the House of Representatives.

The legislation, sponsored by Representative James M. Kolleh of Bong County District #2, seeks to provide sustainable and reliable funding for the LNP to strengthen its operations and overall effectiveness.

If enacted, the Trust Fund would support a range of law enforcement priorities, including improving police infrastructure, upgrading equipment, enhancing officer training and welfare, and boosting community policing initiatives.

The proposed fund would also focus on strengthening intelligence gathering and emergency response capabilities.

According to the bill, the Trust Fund would function as a permanent, autonomous entity with the authority to own assets, enter into contracts, and pursue legal actions as necessary.

Representative Kolleh emphasized that the initiative is essential for promoting accountability and ensuring long-term stability in police funding, especially as Liberia faces rising security challenges.

“This bill will create a more accountable and sustainable framework to support our national police force,” Kolleh stated.

The proposal has been forwarded to the House Committees on National Security and Judiciary, which are expected to review the bill and report back within two weeks.
