House Leadership Endorses Suspension of Liberia Traffic Management Operations Pending Review

Monrovia, Liberia – The House of Representatives has officially endorsed the recommendations from its Joint Committee on Investment & Concession and Transport, calling for a halt to all operations of the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM) until a comprehensive investigation and review of the concession agreement is completed.

The decision was made during a leadership meeting on Monday, August 4, 2025, amidst growing public concern over the legal and operational status of LTM’s dealings with the Government of Liberia.

The joint committee’s report outlines several immediate actions, including:

1. The suspension of LTM operations pending a full-scale legislative investigation.

2. Collaboration between the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Ministry of Transport to enforce all motor vehicle and traffic laws in accordance with existing statutes.

3. Continuation of statutory functions by the Ministry of Transport, such as the registration of motor vehicles and issuance of driver’s licenses, without interference from LTM.

Furthermore, the committee recommended that aspects of the agreement with LTM, specifically concerning vehicle registrations, driver’s licenses, and license plate issuances, be suspended pending the investigation.

In a formal communication to the President, the House emphasized the need for this temporary suspension, citing a report from the Joint Committee on Transport and Investment & Concessions. This report was prompted by petitions from various stakeholders in the Liberian transport sector and aggrieved employees of the Ministry of Transport.

The House Leadership has urged the Executive Branch to fully adhere to the joint committee’s recommendations, highlighting the importance of public accountability, legal clarity, and the welfare of the Liberian people.

This legislative action reflects the House’s commitment to transparency, due process, and responsible oversight in all concession arrangements undertaken by the Government of Liberia.
