House Majority Bloc Vows to Pass 2025 National Budget by Friday

The recognized Majority Bloc of Liberia’s House of Representatives Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance has pledged to ensure the passage of the Fiscal Year 2025 Draft National Budget by Friday, December 20, 2024.

During Monday’s hearing on the draft budget’s expenditure component, Committee Chairperson P. Mike Jury emphasized that lawmakers will work overtime this week to finalize and pass the budget.
This commitment comes amid ongoing political tensions on Capitol Hill over the Speakership position.

Supporters of Majority Bloc-backed Speaker Richard Koon and embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa continue to vie for control, adding a layer of political friction to the budget discussions.

The proposed FY 2025 National Budget amounts to US$851.76 million, with domestic revenue accounting for US$791.76 million (93%) and external resources contributing US$60 million (7%).

Representative Jury, who represents Maryland County District #1, assured that the House of Representatives will collaborate with the Liberian Senate to expedite the budget’s passage before the end of this week.
