House of Representatives Invites LBS Director General Over National Language Program Coverage

The Honorable House of Representatives has invited the Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Eugene L. Fahngon, to appear before the August Body next Tuesday to provide clarification on the coverage of the National Language Program aired on 97.7 ELBC.

Plenary’s decision Tuesday, during its 15th day sitting of the 1st Quarter of the 3rd session was triggered by a communication submitted by Momo Siafa Kpoto, Representative of Lofa County Electoral District #3. In his communication, Representative Kpoto requested Plenary to invite the LBS Director General to explain why the National Language Program does not adequately cover the entire country, particularly Lofa County, despite advancements in broadcasting technology.

According to the lawmaker, the limited reach of the program continues to deny many citizens especially those in rural areas access to vital public information disseminated in local languages, which is critical for national inclusion, education, and civic awareness.

Plenary agreed that the matter is of national importance and warrants explanation from the leadership of the Liberia Broadcasting System to ensure equitable access to public broadcasting services across the country.

The House of Representatives remains committed to promoting inclusiveness, accountability, and equal access to information for all Liberians.
