A local house owner in Grand Kru County, Mr. A. Mah Nimely, has publicly demanded the payment of six months of rental arrears allegedly owed by the Unity Party Grand Kru Chapter following the Party Homecoming and Fundraising National Rally held in Barclayville on December 6, 2025.
Mr. Mah, whose building has been used by the Unity Party Grand Kru Chapter as its office space, said that Party officials have failed to settle their outstanding financial obligations amounting to six thousand United States dollars.
Speaking in frustration during a UP political rally in Grand Kru, Mr. Mah who suddenly appeared said:
“For the past six months, the Unity Party has been occupying my house without settling a single month rent. The debt now stands at six thousand United States dollars, and I can no longer keep quiet.”
He explained that he has made repeated attempts to engage the county leadership of the Party, specifically the Chairman of the Grand Kru Chapter, Nelson Tecgeoh Torbor, but there has been no response.
I have reminded Chairman Torbor several times. I told him respectfully, over and over, but they kept promising and never paying. I am a citizen trying to make ends meet, and this is my only income, Mah said.
Mr. Mah stressed that while he supports multiparty democracy and community development, the Party handling of the situation has left him deeply disappointed.
“It is embarrassing that a reputable political party will owe someone for six months and act as if nothing is happening,” he said.
Unity Party officials did not deny the allegation, as a senior member of the Grand Kru Chapter speaking at the rally admitted that the Party indeed owed Mr. Mah.
“We recognize the concern of Mr. Mah. The Unity Party is aware of the outstanding amount, and we are not running away from our responsibility, the official said.”
However, the Party appealed for patience and proposed a peaceful engagement.
“Times have been tough, but we will sit with the house owner and hold a round table discussion to agree on a settlement plan. We ask him to exercise restraint as we work this out amicably,” the official said.
The Unity Party held its National Homecoming and Fundraising Rally in Barclayville on December 6 as part of efforts to raise resources for the construction of a national headquarters and local offices across Liberia.
The event drew national attention and participation from supporters, officials, and community leaders.
Despite the festive atmosphere, Mr. Mah public statement has sparked discussions among residents regarding the Party financial management and its relationship with local citizens in Grand Kru County.
Mr. Mah insists he simply wants his due payment, while Unity Party officials maintain that dialogue will resolve the issue.
