House Speaker Calls for Honesty in Awarding Degrees

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has called on universities, colleges, and educators in Liberia to be honest and sincere in awarding degrees to students at their various tertiary institutions.

Speaker Koffa was speaking at the launch of the Joint National Education Stakeholders Retreat held in Ganta, Nimba County, over the weekend.

The Speaker emphasized the need for pragmatic steps to transform the education sector. He urged administrators to ensure that students graduating from universities and colleges are well-prepared and competent before awarding them degrees.

The Speaker of the 55th Legislature highlighted the proliferation of new educational institutions across the country and questioned whether Liberia has adequately assessed the capabilities of its graduates compared to their counterparts in other regions like Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.

He made these revelations while addressing educational stakeholders in Nimba County.

Cllr. Koffa also highlighted the significance of maintaining high standards and quality in education to ensure the nation’s graduates are competitive on a regional and global scale.

Liberia’s 55th House of Representatives Speaker extolled the Joint Legislative Education Committee (JLEC) for organizing the National Education Stakeholders Retreat, which he believes will play a crucial role in addressing the challenges facing the sector.

He expressed optimism that the retreat would lead to meaningful discussions and reforms to strengthen the education system in Liberia.

The National Education Stakeholders Retreat brought together key players in the educational sector, including policymakers and administrators, to deliberate on strategies for improving the quality and standards of education in Liberia.

Key government institutions in attendance included the Ministry of Education, the Liberian Senate, the University of Liberia, among others.
