Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has disclosed that she has not received any benefits owed to her since leaving office in January, following the inauguration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Madam Taylor, who served as Liberia’s Vice President for six years under the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) administration of former President George Manneh Weah, made the revelation on Sunday evening, April 6, during a live appearance on Spoon Talk.
Speaking candidly, the former Vice President said that since stepping down, she has repeatedly written to the Boakai administration requesting the benefits and entitlements due her as a former high-ranking official of government, but to no avail.
“There’s been no response,” she stated. “I’ve written several letters to this government, but nothing has been done. Not even one vehicle was assigned to me when I left office.”
Madam Taylor said she now relies on her personal vehicle for transportation, and recounted a particularly humiliating experience on the day of the inauguration of President Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung.
“I had to leave the official vehicles for the new Vice President and stood under a tree waiting for a private vehicle to take me home,” she explained.
The former Vice President’s statement comes amid ongoing discussions about the treatment of former officials, transparency in public service, and the need to uphold constitutional responsibilities by honoring retirement benefits.
