Former Margibi County senatorial candidate Vandalark R. Patricks has announced his intention to contest the highly anticipated 2029 elections in the county.
Speaking at the Kakata Intellectual Forum on Saturday, January 3, 2026, Patricks acknowledged his defeat in the 2023 elections but emphasized that the loss has not deterred him or shaken his resolve.
A Harvard University graduate and prominent civil society leader, Patricks has been a vocal advocate for human rights, anti-corruption, governance reform, and youth empowerment in Liberia for over 15 years.
Reflecting on his 2023 defeat, Patricks attributed the outcome to financial constraints, suggesting that many voters in Margibi were influenced by the size of candidates’ pockets rather than their qualifications or track record.
During his address, Patricks appealed to Margibi residents for their support in the upcoming elections, insisting that he would still appear on the ballot as a senatorial candidate regardless of voter endorsement.
“I remain committed to serving Margibi County, and even if some citizens choose not to support me, I will continue to engage with the electorate and contest the seat,” Patricks stated.
In the 2023 elections, Patricks contested the senatorial seat on the Liberia’s People Party (LPP) ticket alongside eight other candidates. According to the National Elections Commission, he placed eighth, receiving 3,412 votes out of 132,713 valid votes, representing 2.57% of the total votes.
Despite this outcome, Patricks remains optimistic about his chances in 2029. He expressed confidence that with the backing of the people of Margibi, he can secure victory and serve as the county’s next senator.
