The Ministry of Public Works has temporarily shut down the Cestos River Bridge in ITI for urgent maintenance, causing significant disruptions for travellers. The closure, which began early Tuesday morning, November 26, has blocked access to this crucial transportation route.
Repair work is underway, but no official timeline has been provided for when the bridge will reopen. Ministry staff on the ground have declined to comment on the situation when approached by Verity News.
The Cestos River Bridge is a key link for travellers to several counties in southeastern Liberia, including Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland, and River Gee. Its closure has left many commuters and cargo drivers stranded, resulting in substantial inconvenience.
While the repairs are essential for long-term infrastructure improvement, the closure has raised concerns among residents and travellers about how the government will handle the disruptions and when access will be restored.
In the meantime, travellers are resorting to wooden canoes to cross the Cestos River as they await updates on the progress of the repairs.
