James Coco Chea Advocates for Global Peace with New Song “Speed It Up”

In a world plagued by global conflicts, Liberian reggae musician James Coco Chea has launched a powerful call for peace with his new song, “Speed It Up.” The track urges world leaders to swiftly end the ongoing hostilities in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and other regions affected by violence.

Drawing on his personal experience of Liberia’s brutal civil war, which claimed over 250,000 lives and left the country’s infrastructure in ruins, Chea’s message in “Speed It Up” is urgent and clear: “Speed it up to save humanity. Save the children—they too have the right to live.”

The song is an emotional plea for international intervention, targeting global organizations such as the United Nations, European Union, African Union, and Arab League to take immediate action. More than just a melody, Chea’s music acts as an advocacy tool to alleviate human suffering and restore dignity to those caught in the devastation of war.

“The devastation unfolding in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and other war-torn areas cannot continue. We must act swiftly to save lives and rebuild hope,” Chea said in a recent interview. His lyrics convey the urgency and despair of those affected by violence, while his music calls for a collective global effort to restore peace.

James Coco Chea has long been a peace advocate. Since 2003, he has collaborated with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), using his music to promote the organization’s peacekeeping mission. His songs have played a crucial role in Liberia’s post-conflict reconciliation, helping foster social cohesion and healing in a nation scarred by years of war.

Currently, Chea serves as the Communication and Outreach Assistant for the Liberia National Commission on Arms (LiNCA), where he works to combat the illegal proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Liberia. His efforts create a safer Liberia and a more stable West African region.

In addition to his advocacy, Chea has used music as a tool for peace and development through his organization, the Harmonizers Entertainment Group Inc., founded in 2008. The group is dedicated to leveraging music to promote peace, security, and growth within Liberia and beyond. Chea’s international influence is evident in his performances in Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, and at the Dubai Expo 2020, where he showcased Liberian music to a global audience.

Chea’s collaborations with musical icons such as Jimmy Cliff and Zac & Geebah and his work on cultural workshops with the United States of Africa Consultancy reflect his versatility as an artist committed to a more significant cause.

Through “Speed It Up,” Chea sends a clear message: his music is not just for entertainment—it is a call to action. The song emphasizes the need to save lives, protect children, and rebuild societies torn apart by war.

Having witnessed the horrors of conflict firsthand, Chea’s advocacy extends far beyond Liberia. His work reflects a profound understanding of global interconnectedness and the power of music to foster social change. His songs raise awareness and inspire action, providing a platform for dialogue and understanding among diverse communities.

In a world where division and violence often dominate the discourse, Chea’s message of unity and hope through “Speed It Up” is a powerful reminder that peace is within reach. His music challenges world leaders and citizens alike to prioritize humanity over hostility, urging immediate action to prevent further loss of life.
