Joint security officers stationed at the main border crossing between Liberia and Guinea in Ganta, Nimba County, have intercepted a vehicle carrying a large quantity of illegal drugs and firearm components including gunshots.
According to security sources that spoke to Verity News on conditions of anonymity, the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Saturday when officers conducting a routine security search at the Ganta–Guinea border checkpoint stopped a Guinea-registered vehicle bearing license plate AV 1189 as it attempted to enter Liberia.
During the inspection, security officers discovered 259 packs of Tramadol, a controlled substance commonly abused as a narcotic drug, along with 29 packs of single-barrel gunshots, believed to be parts used for the assembly of firearms.
The vehicle and its occupants were immediately detained by officers of the joint security team for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Security officials have not yet released the identities of those arrested though it is confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody as investigators work to determine the source and intended destination of the confiscated items.
The drugs and firearm components have been turned over to the relevant authorities for further examination and possible prosecution.
