Jonahsa Foundation Celebrates Journalists for Advancing Youth Empowerment in Liberia

Monrovia – Two Liberian journalists, Trokon G. Flahnma and Philip Tarr, have been recognized for their exceptional volunteer contributions to the Jonahsa Foundation, a nonprofit organization working to uplift underprivileged children across Liberia through education, mental health, and agricultural initiatives.

During a colorful ceremony on April 5, 2025, in Paynesville along GSA Road, the foundation honored both men for their unwavering commitment to its mission. Flahnma, who has served as Director of Media and Communications since 2022, was praised for his tireless efforts in amplifying the foundation’s voice and strengthening public engagement. His work has not only drawn attention to the foundation’s goals but also helped mobilize vital donor support.

Tarr, who was recently appointed Music Ambassador of the Jonahsa Foundation, was celebrated for using his musical talents to raise awareness and connect communities to the foundation’s cause. Through music and creative outreach, Tarr has fostered a vibrant atmosphere of support around the foundation’s work, inspiring engagement and participation.

In remarks delivered at the event, Flahnma expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a call to further service. “This award is not just for me, but for all of us who are working to make a difference,” he said. “We all have a role to play in improving the lives of our children, especially in the educational sector, which is so vital for their future.”

He also extended heartfelt thanks to the foundation’s donors, emphasizing that their contributions make the mission possible. “Without the support of our donors, none of this would be possible,” he said. “Together, we are building a better future for our children.”

Tarr echoed similar sentiments, pledging to continue using music as a tool for positive change. “Music has a unique ability to bring people together and inspire change,” he said. “I look forward to using my talents to further support the foundation’s work and engage more people in this important cause.” Jonah Barcon, Chief Executive Officer of the Jonahsa Foundation, lauded both men for their service, describing their contributions as integral to the organization’s progress. “This recognition is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication that Trokon and Philip have shown over the years,” Barcon said. “Their commitment to our mission has made a significant impact, and we are proud to honor them both.”
