In a significant diplomatic appointment, Joseph E. Zadrozny has been named Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, effective August 2025. A seasoned member of the Senior Foreign Service, Zadrozny commenced his tenure as Deputy Chief of Mission for Mission Liberia in July 2025, transitioning to his new role shortly thereafter.
Zadrozny brings a wealth of international experience to his new position. From 2023 to 2025, he served as Management Counselor in Abuja, Nigeria, overseeing critical operations.
Prior to his appointment, he held the position of Chargé d’Affaires in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, covering additional responsibilities for the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu from April 2022 to August 2023. His extensive career has also included leadership roles as Consul General in Wuhan, China, and various positions across multiple U.S. embassies in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenyang.
His diplomatic journey has taken him to Germany, where he served at both the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the Consulate General in Frankfurt. Additional assignments have included postings at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Before joining the Foreign Service in 1998, Zadrozny dedicated his efforts to the Peace Corps, initially as a Volunteer in Mongolia and later as a staff member at Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C., and in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
A Houston, Texas native, Zadrozny is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is multilingual, fluent in French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Mongolian, and Russian, making him well-equipped for the diverse challenges of his new role at the U.S. Embassy.
