Journalist Famatta Tribute Leads Weekend Clash Between Hippo FC and Champions FC

Harbel City, Margibi County — Radio Personality and community advocate Famatta Eunice Thomas will be in the spotlight this Saturday as Hippo FC, Margibi County’s celebrated female soccer team and climate-change awareness powerhouse, faces off against Champions FC’s under-15 male squad.

The match is set for Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Margibi University Soccer Field in Harbel City. Fans are expected to arrive at 3:00 p.m., with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Saturday’s event is being dedicated to Famatta, a respected Voice of Firestone radio personality known for her work in youth development, community engagement, and public health advocacy.

Speaking to Verity News via WhatsApp on Friday, Dr Syrulwa Somah, CEO Hippo FC says the tribute recognizes journalist Famatta “tireless dedication and lasting impact” across Margibi County.

Hippo FC’s star striker Jennebah Koomson, the team’s MVP and leading scorer, will headline the squad as they aim to demonstrate how sports can motivate environmental awareness. The team continues to use football as a platform to educate fans on the importance of greener living and collective climate action.

Beyond the competition, the match will feature interactive activities and sustainability booths, offering attendees a chance to learn more about environmental stewardship and youth empowerment.

Organizers are calling on community members to turn out in full support. “It’s more than just a game,” Monue Shine Gbelemah, Vice President For Operation, Hippo FC ~ it’s a celebration of community, sportsmanship, and the fight against climate change.
