Justice Minister Denies Involvement in Illegal Mining

Monrovia, Liberia: The Office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr. Oswald N. Tweh, has firmly dismissed recent allegations linking him and his Chief of Staff to illegal mining activities, labeling the claims as “false, misleading, and unfounded.”

The allegations reportedly surfaced on the OK Afternoon Conversation radio program on Monday, when a caller claimed that the Chief of Staff was spotted at a mining site, suggesting possible involvement in unauthorized mining operations.

In an official statement released Monday, October 13, 2025, the Justice Ministry categorically denied the accusation, stating that neither Minister Tweh nor any staff member is engaged ~ either directly or indirectly ~ in mining activities of any kind.

“These claims are entirely baseless and intended to tarnish the reputation of the Minister and the integrity of the Ministry of Justice,” the statement read. “We challenge those making such allegations to produce credible evidence to support their claims rather than spread misinformation and reckless speculation.”

The Office of the Minister also reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and vowed to continue taking action against illegal mining and exploitation of natural resources in Liberia.

“The Ministry remains focused on its core mandate of administering justice, strengthening the rule of law, and protecting the interests of the Liberian people,” the statement concluded.

The Ministry urged the public to remain vigilant against disinformation and assured that it will not be deterred from its responsibilities by what it described as “deliberate attempts to undermine its work.”
