Justice Yusif Kaba Halts Medtech Operations

The Justice in Chambers, His Honor Yusif D Kaba, has halted Medtech Scientific Inspection Services (MTS) Ltd operations. Justice Kaba’s decision was triggered by a writ of prohibition filed against the MTS Inspection Services according to a document retrieved by Verity News.

A release issued by MTS on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, states that the company is suspending its operations based on a writ of Prohibition filed against them with the Supreme Court Justice in chambers Kaba.

The release further quotes MTS as saying “they are constrained to announce the suspension of its operations along with closure of its offices effective immediately until further notice.”

Recently, The Senate had a joint committee to investigate the contract worth $18 million that was signed between MedTech Scientific and the Liberian Government.

This investigation was meant to establish the true intent of the contract, ensuring whether or not it was nolitically corrupt.

This led to two separate communications from the Senate joint committee on Public Accounts and Commerce and Industry.

Those communications were signed by Amara Konneh, Alex Tyler, Dabah Varpilah, Jonathan Sogbie, Edwin Snowe, Nathaniel McGill, Crayton Duncan, Abraham Darius Dillion, and Albert Chie of Gbarpolu, Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, Rivergee, Margibi, Sinoe, Montserrado and Grand Kru Respectively.

In the communications dated April 16, 2024, the committee claimed that MedTech has refrained from providing essential documentations for the period of July 2021 to November 2022.

They disclosed that the document supplied to them indicates the registration of the MTS Inspection services in November 2022, which does not align with the operational entities stipulated in the contract.

With these concerns being raised, an Ad-Hoc committee was set up be the Senate in April 2024.
It was mandated to establish whether or not the performance of the company is positively affecting the Liberian economy.

But, public hearings on the MedTech investigation by the Senate Ad-Hoc committee have suffered a series of setbacks ranging from the failure of the relevant authorities to provide sensitive documents and the intentional boycotting of the hearings by the CEO and General Manager of MedTech Scientific Liberia Limited, MTS and other shareholders.

At a scheduled hearing on Friday, June 21, 2024, Mr. Hassan failed to appear for the second time as requested.

This latest development has led to the current suspension of all MTS Operations and offices being closed till further notice.
