Health workers at the Kakata Health Center in Margibi County have shut down the facility in protest over unpaid salaries, leaving patients unattended, some in critical condition. The strike began early yesterday morning and has sparked widespread concern as several patients were left without care.
The protesting workers cited the government’s failure to pay their salaries and provide other long-overdue benefits as the main reason for their actions. “We have families to support, but we’ve worked for months without pay. Enough is enough,” one worker stated.
Eyewitnesses reported heartbreaking scenes as patients, many unable to walk, were carried or wheeled out of the facility by their relatives. Critical patients, it was reported, were left in life-threatening conditions due to the lack of immediate alternatives.
Residents of Kakata expressed outrage and fear for the welfare of their loved ones. “This is unacceptable. These are people’s lives at risk. The government must prioritize healthcare workers,” one concerned local said.
The Margibi County Health Team was contacted for comment, but Dr. Doryea, the County Health Officer, stated that their central office had instructed them not to comment.
The Kakata Health Center is one of the key healthcare facilities in the county, serving thousands of residents. Its closure could lead to severe public health consequences if the issue is not swiftly addressed.
