Kollieta-Wolah Receives US$75K Modern Elementary School; Residents Call for Facility Protection

A major educational breakthrough has been recorded in Kollieta-Wolah Town, Bong County, following the completion and dedication of a newly constructed modern elementary school valued at US$75,000.

The project, funded through the County Social Development Fund (CSDF), began in May 2025 and was completed in September after being endorsed during an emergency sitting of the Bong County Council. The new facility includes multiple classrooms, administrative offices, window glass fittings, and modern armchairs aimed at improving the learning environment for children in the area.

During the dedication ceremony, Bong County Development Officer Sediki Kromah provided an overview of the project. He explained that its construction was prompted by a formal appeal from residents and the collective decision of county authorities and the Bong Legislative Caucus. Kromah noted that although the project was initially scheduled for completion in August, the handover was delayed due to the need to procure sufficient chairs to accommodate students.

He extended appreciation to key county stakeholders, including Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr., Representative James Kolleh of District #2, Superintendent Loleyeh Hawa Norris, the construction company, and community members for their support and collaboration throughout the project’s execution.

In remarks at the ceremony, Senator Moye expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the school, crediting the spirit of unity among county officials for the progress being made across various sectors. He emphasized that development initiatives in Bong County are now being driven by the collective good rather than political or personal interests.

Senator Moye also referenced a component of the project originally initiated by former Liberian Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, noting that despite its stagnation for years, it has now been revived and completed under the current county leadership.

For her part, Bong County Superintendent Loleyeh Hawa Norris praised all individuals and groups who contributed to the project. She urged community members and local education stakeholders to take ownership of the facility, safeguard it from damage, and ensure its sustainability for future generations.

Residents of Kollieta-Wolah joined local education stakeholders in expressing gratitude to the county leadership. They especially commended Senator Moye and Representative Kolleh, recalling the senator’s past leadership in the area, including his support for a similar school project when he once served as the district’s representative.

Meanwhile, residents are appealing to Senator Moye and other county authorities to prioritize fencing the school premises to protect the building and its equipment from vandalism and environmental threats.

The dedication of the new school marks a significant milestone in improving educational access and infrastructure in Kollieta-Wolah Town, signaling renewed hope for students and families in the community.
