The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening whistleblower protection as it welcomed representatives of the Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa (PPLAAF) on January 27, 2026.
The meeting, held at the LACC headquarters, formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration and enhance safeguards for individuals who report corruption in Liberia.
It was chaired by Atty. Samuel Dakana, Commissioner with oversight responsibility for the Monitoring and Investigation Department, on behalf of the Executive Chairperson, who was attending an emergency engagement outside the office.
Atty. Dakana warmly received the PPLAAF delegation and underscored the Commission’s dedication to partnerships that promote transparency, accountability, and effective anti-corruption enforcement.
Leading the PPLAAF delegation, Executive Director Mr. Jimmy Kande highlighted the organization’s work across West and Central Africa, focusing on the protection and defense of whistleblowers.
He outlined PPLAAF’s support mechanisms, including secure reporting channels, protection and relocation assistance, media engagement to support public-interest disclosures, and capacity-building programs for journalists and civil society organizations.
Mr. Kande explained that the visit forms part of a series of engagements scheduled from January 27 to 30, aimed at establishing practical partnerships with key national institutions to ensure corruption can be reported without fear of retaliation.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioners, Atty. Dakana emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation and robust whistleblower protection in addressing corruption at both national and regional levels.
He reaffirmed the LACC’s commitment to providing a safe and trusted environment for whistleblowers, in keeping with the Commission’s mandate to protect informants and support investigations that lead to the recovery of stolen public funds.
Both LACC and PPLAAF expressed optimism that the collaboration will further strengthen systems that empower whistleblowers and advance the fight against corruption in Liberia and across the African continent.
