Monrovia, Liberia-The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has officially summoned Mustapha Raji, President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), over allegations of financial misconduct involving substantial sums allocated to the football governing body.
According to the LACC summons obtained by this paper, Raji is required to provide explanations regarding the handling of funds totaling US$658,550 and US$1,160,016, which were allotted to the LFA for the 2022 and 2023 fiscal years, respectively.
These funds were reportedly intended for operational expenses and developmental programs within the football association.
The investigation follows a formal petition submitted by students from the University of Liberia, specifically the Student Unification Party (SUP), who raised concerns over potential mismanagement and corruption at the LFA.
This latest development adds to the scrutiny faced by football administration in Liberia, with stakeholders calling for transparency and accountability to safeguard the sport’s integrity.
Efforts to reach President Mustapha Raji for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
The LACC’s inquiry underscores the commission’s ongoing commitment to rooting out corruption in public and private institutions alike, reinforcing the need for stringent oversight of funds dedicated to national sports development.
