LACC, U.S. Embassy Strengthen Cooperation on Anti-Corruption Efforts

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) on Monday, January 26, 2026, held a high-level meeting with a delegation from the United States Embassy, including Ms. Christen Schill, a Visiting Technical Advisor from the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre (IACCC), to strengthen collaboration in the fight against corruption.

The meeting, held at the LACC’s headquarters in Monrovia, focused on enhancing cooperation in the investigation and prosecution of corruption cases, particularly those involving illicit financial flows and cross-border money movement.

Welcoming the delegation, LACC Executive Chairperson Cllr. Alexandra Kormah Zoe provided an overview of the Commission’s mandate, ongoing work, and operational challenges.

She highlighted the absence of a specialized court to handle corruption-related cases but noted that the Government of Liberia has taken concrete steps toward establishing a National Anti-Corruption Court.

According to Cllr. Zoe, a draft bill seeking to establish the specialized court is currently before the National Legislature, with expectations that it could be passed in 2026.

Ms. Schill underscored the importance of strong partnerships between the LACC and international anti-corruption institutions, particularly the IACCC. She encouraged closer collaboration through the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate information sharing and joint case management.

Discussions also covered international cooperation mechanisms for addressing money laundering and financial crimes, including global networks that enable rapid response to information requests, asset freezing, seizure, and the return of recovered assets to affected countries.

The meeting further explored opportunities for capacity building, with commitments from international partners to support training initiatives aimed at strengthening the LACC’s investigative and prosecutorial capabilities.

The LACC reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to combat corruption and financial crimes while advancing transparency, accountability, and good governance in Liberia.
