The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has named Special Agent Bala J. Kamara as its new commander for Lofa County, a move aimed at boosting the fight against drug trafficking and abuse in the region.
Kamara, a native of Lofa and an accomplished graduate, brings years of experience to the position. He first joined the country’s security sector in 2004 but later stepped away to address family matters. After reapplying, he reentered national service and most recently served as LDEA commander in Bomi County before being transferred to his home county.
Speaking on his new assignment, Commander Kamara underscored the importance of collective action in addressing the county’s growing drug-related challenges. He stressed that meaningful progress can be achieved only through strong collaboration between the LDEA, local communities, schools, and the media.
Kamara also hinted at possible adjustments in district-level leadership within the agency, noting that while changes may occur, commanders should be given adequate time to prove their effectiveness. He acknowledged that Lofa County, like many regions across Liberia, continues to grapple with drug activity and emphasized the need for regular arrests and proactive operations to curb the problem.
With his new appointment, Kamara says he is prepared to lead a coordinated and accountable effort to confront the drug crisis and strengthen cooperation between the LDEA and the people of Lofa County.
