LDEA Arrests Johnsonville Man with Narcotics Worth Over USD 3,000 in Gardnerville

Monrovia, August 21, 2025 – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) says it has made another significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics with the arrest of a 48-year-old man accused of importing and distributing drugs in Montserrado County.

According to the LDEA, the suspect, identified as Joseph Wilson, a Liberian resident of Johnsonville, was apprehended on Monday, August 18, 2025, following a buy-and-bust operation conducted by officers assigned to the Agency’s Gardnerville Satellite Station.

The operation, which began around 9:00 a.m., reportedly led to the seizure of 74 kilograms of marijuana, with an estimated street value of LD$666,000, equivalent to about USD 3,330. The drugs were confiscated as evidence, while Wilson was taken into custody and transferred to the LDEA Headquarters in Fiamah, Sinkor, for interrogation.

Preliminary intelligence gathered by the Agency suggests that Wilson is not only a user but also a major importer and distributor of narcotics within several communities in Monrovia and its surroundings. LDEA officers believe his arrest could help uncover a wider network of traffickers currently operating in Montserrado County.

The arrest of Joseph Wilson is a strong message to drug dealers and traffickers that the LDEA remains committed to dismantling drug cartels and ensuring that communities are free from the harmful impact of narcotics,” an LDEA official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told this paper.

The Agency has confirmed that Wilson is undergoing further investigation and will be forwarded to court in the coming days for prosecution in line with Liberia’s drug laws.

Meanwhile, the LDEA is appealing to the public to strengthen its cooperation with law enforcement by reporting suspected drug-related activities. The Agency has encouraged citizens to make use of its 24-hour hotline: 0777-133-333.

The LDEA has in recent months intensified its anti-drug operations across Montserrado, Bong, and other counties, seizing thousands of dollars’ worth of narcotics and making multiple arrests. This latest case adds to the Agency’s growing record of drug busts as Liberia continues to grapple with the rising wave of drug abuse and trafficking.
