Gbarnga, Bong County – In response to the escalating illegal drug activities in Bong County, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Bong Detachment has issued an urgent appeal for logistical support, specifically motorbikes, to bolster its operations. Special Agent Alassan Dolly, Chief of Operations for the Bong Detachment, addressed this pressing issue during a recent press conference, highlighting the critical need for mobility to combat the growing drug trade effectively.
Agent Dolly conveyed his concerns to reporters, lamenting the lack of operational motorcycles at the Bong Detachment. Currently, the agency has no motorbikes available for field operations, which he described as a significant hindrance to their law enforcement efforts. “Our officers face substantial challenges in responding to reports of drug trading and consumption, especially in remote areas where access is difficult due to poor road conditions,” Dolly stated.
The challenge of mobility not only hampers timely responses to incidents but also limits the agency’s ability to patrol and monitor suspected hotspots for drug activity. Agent Dolly pointed out that many locations notorious for drug-related crimes can only be reached effectively by motorcycles, making the absence of this critical resource even more problematic.
In his appeal, Special Agent Dolly urged local authorities and the central government to recognize the urgent situation and provide the necessary logistical support. He emphasized that with enhanced mobility, the LDEA would be better positioned to make significant strides in curbing drug-related offenses and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
“The fight against illegal drugs is a collective effort, and we need the backing of our community leaders and government officials to succeed,” Dolly concluded, expressing hope that their appeal would resonate and lead to prompt action.
As the LDEA Bong Detachment continues to confront the challenges posed by drug trafficking, the successful acquisition of motorbikes could serve as a turning point in their operations, ultimately fostering a safer environment for the residents of Bong County.
