LDEA Dismisses Two Officers, Reaffirms Commitment to Professionalism

Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has dismissed two of its officers following an internal investigation that found evidence of professional misconduct, including the use of excessive force against a suspect. The decision comes after Verity News investigation released a viral video.

Speaking at a press conference in Monrovia, LDEA authorities said the decision was taken as part of the agency’s ongoing reform and rebranding agenda, which emphasizes professionalism, accountability, and respect for due process.

According to the LDEA, the investigation was launched after complaints surfaced involving the conduct of officers identified as Solomon Gbondo and Faith Willie who were involved in an incident on January 6, 2026, in which a female suspect was allegedly assaulted while in custody. The agency said the matter was thoroughly reviewed through an administrative investigation that included written statements, interviews, and responses to structured questions from all parties involved.

The LDEA emphasized that due process was followed throughout the investigation, in line with national laws and international best practices. Investigators reportedly found sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegations of misconduct, prompting the Professional Standards Committee to recommend dismissal.

“In view of the findings, the officer has been dismissed from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency for professional misconduct,” the agency announced, adding that there is “no room for unprofessional behavior” within the institution and that no one is above the law.

The agency further noted that the action taken reflects its zero-tolerance policy for abuse of authority, especially in cases involving suspects or individuals in custody. Officials stressed that all law enforcement actions must be carried out professionally, humanely, and in accordance with established rules and ethical standards.

As part of broader reform efforts, the LDEA disclosed that more than 110 officers are currently undergoing professional training, including at the National Police Training Academy, while others are participating in specialized and refresher courses both locally and abroad. These initiatives, the agency said, are aimed at strengthening capacity, improving conduct, and aligning operations with international law enforcement standards.

The LDEA also highlighted investments being made in institutional development, training, and accountability mechanisms, describing them as critical to restoring public trust and enhancing the credibility of the agency.

The agency called on the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement and reporting misconduct when it occurs, assuring citizens that all complaints will be taken seriously and addressed transparently.

The press conference concluded with the LDEA reiterating its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all individuals, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that officers who violate professional standards face appropriate consequences.
