Monrovia, Liberia – Hours after Verity News released a viral video, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) condemned the alleged actions of two of its officers accused of physically assaulting a female suspect, describing the incident as a serious breach of the agency’s ethical and professional standards.
According to the LDEA release, officers, identified as Solomon Gbondo and Faith Willie, were reportedly taken into custody following allegations of physical abuse, an act that violates the LDEA’s Code of Conduct, which expressly prohibits assault, abuse, or any form of degrading or inhumane treatment of individuals under any circumstances.
In an official response, the LDEA announced that both officers have been immediately disrobed from active duty and handed over to the Board of Internal Inquiry and Professional Standards (BIIPS) for a comprehensive investigation.
According to the agency, appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry.
In a statement, the LDEA firmly distanced itself from the alleged misconduct, stressing that such behavior is unacceptable and detrimental to public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
The agency also cautioned all personnel against abusing the authority entrusted to them, reiterating that its primary responsibility is to protect citizens while strictly upholding the rule of law and respect for human rights.
“There is absolutely zero tolerance for the abuse of power within the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency,” the statement emphasized, warning that any officer found guilty of similar violations will face the full extent of the law.
Despite the incident, the LDEA appealed to the public to remain supportive and cooperative in the ongoing national fight against drug trafficking.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious drug-related activities, with the agency assuring the public of its continued commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of human rights.
