Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested 37-year-old Kenyan national Larnah B. Arondo for attempting to smuggle 8.642 kilograms of heroin into Liberia through the Roberts International Airport (RIA).
According to an LDEA press release, Arondo was intercepted on February 1, 2025, at approximately 3:00 AM while arriving on Ethiopian Airlines flight #ET-933 from Thailand via Addis Ababa.
The heroin, with an estimated street value of US$388,890, was cleverly concealed within the frame of a canopy, which was part of Arondo’s luggage.
During the LDEA’s investigation, Arondo revealed that the package had been entrusted to her by a Nigerian national, identified only as Alex, who resides in Thailand.
She stated that Alex had asked her to deliver the heroin to a Liberian contact named Abel Somah Gbedia.
Acting on this information, the LDEA quickly initiated a search for Gbedia.
He was subsequently arrested and is now in LDEA custody, undergoing further investigation.
The arrest and seizure mark another significant effort by the LDEA to combat drug trafficking in Liberia.
Recently, the agency won its first case against notorious Nigerian drug dealer George Obi, alias’ Original Japan,’ in Criminal Court C at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.
The LDEA has vowed to continue its crackdown on illegal drugs entering the country, working closely with international law enforcement agencies.
