Leadership Vacuum Hits River Gee County Health System After CHO Recall

River Gee County, Liberia — The county’s health system is grappling with a serious leadership crisis following the recent recall of County Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Masuah T. Kokro by the Ministry of Health. The reasons for her removal remain undisclosed to health workers in the county.

Dr. Kokro, who served as CHO for one year after succeeding Dr. Henry Y. Dugulu, is the third County Health Officer to be replaced in the last two to three years. The repeated changes in top leadership have reportedly distressed health workers, who lamented the removal of leaders they considered effective.

As it stands, River Gee County’s health system is left without a CHO, an accounting officer, or an administrator — a leadership vacuum that is reportedly disrupting the day-to-day operations of health facilities across the county and raising concerns among staff.

Local citizens and health workers are urgently calling on the Ministry of Health and the national government to intervene by swiftly appointing new leadership to stabilize the county’s health services and restore essential administrative functions.
