Monrovia – The Acting Management Team of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has assured the nation of an end to persistent power outages, declaring a bold commitment to stabilize electricity supply in the weeks and months ahead.
At a press briefing on Monday, April 7, 2025, Acting Managing Director Mohammed Sheriff said electricity remains one of the most urgent priorities for Liberians, and the LEC’s Interim Management Team is determined to deliver reliable and uninterrupted power. Sheriff announced that a high-level delegation will travel to Guinea next week to finalize a deal that will add 30 megawatts to Liberia’s current energy supply capacity.
“This is not just talk. We are putting actionable solutions in place, strengthening collaboration, and tracking performance to transform the energy sector and optimize domestic energy delivery,” Sheriff said.
The upcoming agreement with Guinea is expected to significantly increase the country’s access to stable electricity and reduce the strain on current power infrastructure. With Liberia’s growing demand for energy, the additional supply could serve as a major boost for businesses, schools, health centers, and households across the country.
In a parallel effort to support national infrastructure development, LEC has also begun relocating its assets, including high-tension and distribution lines, from the construction zone of two upcoming overpasses along Tubman Boulevard. The overpasses, intended to ease traffic congestion and enhance road safety, require clear rights of way, and the LEC’s proactive response is aimed at ensuring the construction process moves ahead without delay or risk to public safety.
Sheriff emphasized that the relocation process is being handled with technical precision to avoid service disruptions and protect the integrity of the electrical grid.
