Legislative Chambers Vandalized By Unknown Men

Unidentified individuals have vandalized chairs in the Joint Chamber of the Liberian Legislature, sparking controversy and concern among lawmakers.

The damaged chairs are located in the section typically used by members of the anti-Speaker bloc, a group within the Legislature known for challenging the leadership of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

The incident, discovered early this morning, has raised alarm over security measures within the legislative building.

Sources within the Legislature confirm that an investigation has been launched to determine who is responsible, with security personnel reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence.

Thus far, the identities and motives of those involved remain unknown.

The vandalism comes at a time of growing tension within the legislative body. Recently, factions have formed over key decisions, with the anti-Speaker bloc often at odds with Speaker Koffa’s supporters.

Some lawmakers speculate that the vandalism might be intended to intimidate the anti-Speaker group, though no official statements have confirmed this theory.

“This kind of incident is unacceptable and raises questions about the safety of our chambers,” a legislative staff member, who requested anonymity, told Verity Online News. “We must ensure that our lawmakers feel safe to conduct their work without fear of sabotage.”

Legislative security has been tightened since the incident, with plans to implement additional measures to prevent future occurrences. Some members of the anti-Speaker bloc have also called for enhanced transparency in the investigation to ensure accountability.
