LFA Launches FIFA Elite Youth Goalkeeper Coaches’ Workshop

By Jeremiah Gayflor

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has kicked off another major step in its ongoing drive to strengthen football development across the country, launching the FIFA Elite Youth Goalkeeper Coaches’ Workshop on Monday, December 1, at the association’s headquarters.

The five-day course, which runs from December 1–5, brings together 22 goalkeeper coaches from clubs and national teams. The program is being led by FIFA experts Alejandro Heredia and Cameron Cox, who will provide participants with advanced training on modern goalkeeping techniques and coaching methods.

The workshop is part of a series of specialized programs organized by FIFA in partnership with its Member Associations. The initiative aims to enhance the technical and tactical skills of youth goalkeeper coaches while addressing the evolving demands of the modern game. The course also focuses on building local coaching capacity, improving player development, and fostering knowledge exchange.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji underscored the critical role goalkeeping education plays in shaping the future of Liberian football. He urged the participants to maximize the opportunity and help nurture the next generation of talent.

“Today we’ve gathered most of you—coaches of clubs and national teams—to share knowledge,” Raji said. “Take key points, build on the expertise you currently have, further develop yourselves, and transfer that knowledge to young Liberian goalkeepers who have the interest and potential to grow.”

Raji reaffirmed the LFA’s commitment to football development, noting that the association has continued to deliver on promises made ahead of its second mandate.

“With emphasis on football development and capacity building, we are seeing the results through the many trainings in coaching, administration, refereeing, sports medicine, and more,” he added. “The challenge now is for all of you involved in coaching ~ from grassroots to the senior level ~ to show a difference beginning in 2026.”

The workshop marks another significant milestone in the LFA’s broader objective of elevating the standard of football nationwide, supported by FIFA’s ongoing efforts to make the sport truly global.
