The political leader of the newly formed opposition political party, the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), has sharply criticized the Boakai-Koung led administration in an open letter he has titled, “Letter from Saclepea.”
Representative Musa Hassan Bility asserted that Liberia is suffering under President Boakai as Liberians watch a slow decay. The Nimba County Lawmaker claimed that those who govern are so desperate to cling to power that they would crush any voice, rewrite any truth, and spend the country’s soul just to stay in charge.
The criticism of CMC Political Leader comes in the wake of prevailing political tensions between the government and opposition political parties including CDC, ANC, CMC, and MOVEE. The four opposition parties issued a joint statement on June 6, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of former Speaker Fonati Koffa and other lawmakers who are now facing multiple charges of arson, criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, criminal facilitation, etc.
“Liberia is suffering. And I say this not as a politician, but as a witness to the slow decay of a dream we once shared. To my left, those who govern, so desperate to cling to power that they will crush any voice, rewrite any truth, and spend the country’s soul just to stay in charge. And in the middle of this dark theater, Liberia cries. We are caught between those who will do anything to hold power and those who will say anything to take it. Liberia cannot be rescued by those who broke her,” Rep. Bility said.
