Liberia Confirms 25 Active Mpox Cases, Zero Deaths

The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has confirmed 25 active cases of Mpox in the country, with no deaths reported so far, according to Dr. Chris Dugbeh Nyan, Director General of the Institute.

Dr. Nyan disclosed the update during a press briefing at MICAT on the status of infectious diseases in the region. He emphasized that Liberia’s health authorities are actively monitoring and managing the situation to prevent further spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, neighboring Sierra Leone is facing a much more severe outbreak, with 1,904 active Mpox cases and 14 reported deaths, raising regional concerns about cross-border transmission and public health preparedness.

Dr. Nyan reassured the public that health systems in Liberia remain alert and capable of handling the outbreak, while encouraging citizens to follow preventive guidelines and report any symptoms associated with Mpox.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that spreads through close contact and can cause fever, rash, and other flu-like symptoms. Health experts are urging vigilance and cooperation in containing the virus across West Africa.
