Liberia Deepens Agricultural Investment Cooperation with China’s Mainland Group

Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, has concluded high-level engagements with the Chairman and Board of Directors of Mainland Group aimed at expanding the company’s investments in Liberia’s agricultural sector.

The discussions were held on the margins of Mainland Group’s Annual Gala 2026 in Changsha, Hunan Province, which commemorated the company’s 25th anniversary of global operations.

The event convened senior government officials, private sector leaders, and development partners from across Asia and Africa.

Talks focused on prospective investments in cassava processing, rice milling, and agricultural logistics, and financial services, priority areas aligned with Liberia’s national agenda for food security, value addition, and employment generation.

Minister Nuetah underscored Liberia’s strong agricultural potential, citing its fertile land, favorable climate, and long-standing farming traditions.

He emphasized, however, that expanding domestic agro-processing capacity remains essential to maximizing value retention and strengthening the rural economy.

“Liberia is committed to partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for farmers and communities. Strategic investments in processing, logistics, and trade infrastructure are critical to positioning agriculture as a pillar of inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” Minister Nuetah stated.

In response, Mainland Group Chairman, Mr. Zhu Chen, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to Liberia and disclosed plans to broaden its investment portfolio to include logistics and financial services, building on its existing agro-processing initiatives.

In separate but related engagements, Minister Nuetah also met with senior officials of the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce and the Changsha City Government to explore opportunities for enhanced trade and investment cooperation, including the potential production and export of hot pepper from Liberia to the Chinese market.

The Government of Liberia continues to welcome investors who demonstrate a commitment to sustainable, responsible, and inclusive agricultural development in support of the country’s national transformation objectives.
