It was an inspiring moment for both students and professionals at the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) as LiMA Commissioner General Cllr. Neto Z. Lighe delivered a special lecture on the theme, “Maritime Governance & Shipping: Liberia’s Vision for the Future.”
The lecture, which was attended by maritime students and professionals participating in the ongoing North Bund Forum, focused on Liberia’s progressive approach to global maritime governance, innovation, and the nation’s role in shaping the future of international shipping.
During the 90-minute interactive session, the commissioner general shared insights into Liberia’s maritime administration, emphasizing modernization, compliance, and digital transformation as key pillars of the country’s future vision for the sector.
One of the highlights of the occasion was the presence of several Liberian students studying at SMU, who expressed pride in seeing their nation represented at such a prestigious international academic platform.
“I was truly impressed to see some Liberian students in the audience. Their enthusiasm and engagement made the discussion even more meaningful,” Lighe noted.
He extended appreciation to the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) technicians for their support in preparing a presentation that, according to him, “captured the attention and inspired the audience.”
In a remarkable show of appreciation, the Shanghai Maritime University formally invited the head of the Liberia maritime authority to return as a guest lecturer, acknowledging the depth of knowledge and perspective he brought to the discussion on maritime governance.
