The president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Mustapha Raji has disclosed that the technical staff of the national football team of Liberia have not received pay for the past three months.
According to the president of the LFA, Mario Marinica, the head coach of Lone Star, has raised concerns about not receiving their monthly salaries for three months, which is causing issues for the national team.
During the LFA’s congress on Saturday, Raji mentioned that the Government has not paid the coaches due to financial constraints.
This situation is negatively impacting the team’s preparation for upcoming matches in June. Raji emphasized the importance of government investment in football for Liberia to compete internationally.
The delay in payments has led to challenges, including outstanding debts from previous matches and lack of funding for future games.
The coaches have expressed frustration and threatened to leave if their salaries are not addressed.
The LFA is facing difficulties in paying salaries, affecting both current and past coaches. Marinica, who successfully guided Liberia to the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of support for the national team’s preparations.
The ongoing issues with salaries and inadequate training time are concerning, especially as the country aims to qualify for major tournaments.
The situation highlights the need for improved financial support and planning in Liberian football.
