Major General Davison Forleh, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, and Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations, Atty. J. Nelson Freeman have successfully concluded a significant three-day security meeting held at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The meeting, which was part of the 16th Ordinary Meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety, and Security (STCDSS), aimed at strengthening cross-border security within the region.
The meeting, held from June 3 to June 5, 2024, brought together top security officials and experts from across the continent to discuss pressing security matters in Africa.
According to a release issued by LNP Spokesperson Madam Cecelia Cleark, the primary focus was on drafting and submitting an annual security manifesto to the Chiefs of Army Staff and Heads of Safety and Security.
During the first two days, security experts engaged in detailed discussions and drafting sessions to create a comprehensive security manifesto. This document addresses various security challenges and proposes strategic measures to enhance safety and stability across the continent. The experts’ draft was then presented to the Chiefs of Army Staff and Heads of Safety and Security for further refinement.
On the final day of the meeting, the Chiefs of Army Staff and Heads of Safety and Security submitted the finalized security manifesto to the Defense Ministers from various African countries. The Defense Ministers reviewed the document, which is expected to serve as an annual roadmap for the African Union’s security initiatives. This manifesto will guide policy and operational decisions aimed at improving regional security.
Liberia was represented by Major General Davison Forleh, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, and Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations, Atty. J. Nelson Freeman. Their participation underscores Liberia’s commitment to regional security cooperation and its proactive role in addressing continental security issues.
On the sidelines of the main event, Atty. Freeman held a crucial meeting with the Director of Peace, Security, and Conflict Management of the African Union.
