Liberia Society of Earth Scientists Hosts Inaugural Symposium on Sustainable Resource Management

The Liberia Society of Earth Scientists and Engineers (LISESE) successfully hosted its first-ever symposium under the theme “Sustainable Management of Liberia’s Natural Mineral Resources through the Earth Sciences and Engineering Professions.”

The landmark event brought together key stakeholders from government, academia, the private sector, and international partners to discuss sustainable strategies for managing the nation’s rich mineral resources.

The symposium featured a high-level panel discussion that offered expert insights into the challenges and opportunities within Liberia’s extractive sector. The distinguished panelists included Former Minister of Mines and Energy, Wilmot J.M. Paye; Monique Liverpool of Petra Resources; A. Kpandel Fayia of the University of Liberia; Mr. Stephen B. Dorbor of G-TERC; and Mr. Darius Wonyen of ArcelorMittal Liberia.

Representatives from the Office of the Vice President, the National Legislature, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Liberia Chamber of Mines, the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI), the World Bank, ArcelorMittal Liberia, Bea Mountain Mining Company, and the University of Liberia attended the event.

Members of the press, along with several current and former government officials, also graced the occasion. In recognition of their contributions to Liberia’s mining and energy sectors, each panelist was presented with a plaque of appreciation.

Former Minister Wilmot J.M. Paye received special honors and was gowned by LISESE as a token of gratitude for his exceptional service and leadership during his tenure at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

LISESE leadership extended heartfelt appreciation to all guests, panelists, professional members, students, volunteers, and supporters for making the symposium a resounding success.

The organization emphasized its commitment to promoting collaboration, research, and innovation within the Earth sciences and engineering fields for national development.

The society encouraged the public to stay connected for upcoming programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening Liberia’s capacity in sustainable natural resource management.
