Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Health and its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), is recording steady progress in its response to the Mpox outbreak, with thousands of people vaccinated nationwide under a targeted, risk-based strategy.
According to health authorities, a total of 18,898 individuals have been vaccinated across the country as part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus and protect populations most at risk. The vaccination campaign focuses on persons aged two years and above, including healthcare workers, frontline responders, and individuals identified as contacts of laboratory-confirmed Mpox cases.
County-level data indicate that vaccination coverage is being aligned with the epidemiological burden of the disease. Montserrado County, the epicenter of the outbreak, remains the most affected, recording 1,013 laboratory-confirmed cases. In response, 6,360 individuals have been vaccinated in the county, reflecting intensified intervention efforts.
Nimba County reported 139 laboratory-confirmed cases and has vaccinated 4,980 individuals. Grand Bassa County recorded 61 confirmed cases, with 1,784 people vaccinated, while Grand Cape Mount County documented 44 confirmed cases and vaccinated 1,374 individuals.
Health officials say the figures demonstrate strong community participation and sustained government commitment to controlling the outbreak. The Ministry of Health continues to urge public cooperation as vaccination and surveillance efforts expand nationwide to prevent further transmission of Mpox.
