Liberia has officially ratified the Biodiversity beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Treaty, becoming a regional leader in protecting the world’s high seas.
The treaty aims to conserve marine biodiversity through Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and international cooperation.
EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo’s advocacy at the UN General Assembly in September 2024 played a key role in Liberia’s ratification.
He emphasized the ocean’s importance to Liberia’s economy, food security, and climate resilience.
