Liberia is set to welcome outgoing African Development Bank (AfDB) President Dr. Akinwunmi A. Adesina on a three-day official visit from July 21–23, marking a significant moment for youth development and economic transformation in the country.
Dr. Adesina, widely recognized for his contributions to agricultural and economic development across Africa, will be honored by the Liberian government during his final months in office.
According to an official statement issued on Sunday, July 20, 2025, by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, his visit is expected to deepen the strategic partnership between Liberia and the AfDB.
A major highlight of the visit will be the official launch of the Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank (YEIB) and the Innovation Bureau, a bold initiative aimed at boosting access to finance and entrepreneurial training for young Liberians.
Backed by the AfDB, the initiative is seen as a game changer in Liberia’s push for inclusive growth.
The statement, amongst other things noted that Dr. Adesina will arrive at Roberts International Airport on Monday, July 21, where he will be received by government officials.
On Tuesday, July 22, he is scheduled to hold a private breakfast and courtesy meeting with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., focusing on Liberia’s economic prospects and ongoing development projects supported by the AfDB.
Later that morning, Dr. Adesina will address a High-Level Expanded Cabinet Meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex.
The session is expected to bring together cabinet ministers, deputies, presidential advisors, agency heads, and leaders of state-owned enterprises to engage with Dr. Adesina on development strategies and the role of youth in nation-building.
In recognition of his decade-long leadership at the AfDB and his support for Liberia’s development agenda, the government will present Dr. Adesina with a national honor during the event.
The formal launch of the Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank will follow the cabinet session.
Dr. Adesina will serve as the chief launcher of the program, which is designed to serve as a catalyst for youth-led innovation and private sector growth in Liberia.
The day’s engagements will conclude with a state dinner hosted by President Boakai in honor of Dr. Adesina, celebrating his legacy and the enduring partnership between Liberia and the African Development Bank.
Dr. Adesina is expected to depart Liberia on Wednesday morning, closing a visit that underscores Liberia’s commitment to youth empowerment and its long-standing collaboration with one of Africa’s premier development institutions.
