By Hogkins D. Tokpah

Grand Bassa County – The Liberian Agricultural Company (LAC) has graduated 22 quality tappers in Wesseh Town, underscoring its commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and the protection of workers’ rights.

The ceremony, attended by relatives of the graduates, farm owners, and members of LAC management, highlighted the company’s focus on improving rubber production standards while ensuring the welfare of its workforce.

Speaking at the event, LAC’s Local Rubber Purchase Manager, Mr. Deepak Divakaran, emphasized that sustainability extends beyond increased productivity. He noted that responsible farming includes providing personal protective equipment to workers and adhering to the Government of Liberia’s minimum wage regulations.

“Sustainability is not only about higher yields,” Divakaran said. “It is also about safeguarding the health and rights of our workers and complying with national labor laws.”

He urged the newly certified tappers to apply careful tapping techniques and to properly use their equipment to maintain the quality of rubber production and protect the longevity of the trees.
Divakaran further stressed that prioritizing workers’ well-being contributes to job satisfaction and long-term industry growth.

In remarks on behalf of the graduates, a representative expressed appreciation to LAC management for the training opportunity and encouraged his colleagues to utilize the knowledge gained to enhance their skills and productivity.
The graduation marks another step in LAC’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and improved labor standards in Grand Bassa County, setting what company officials describe as a positive example for the rubber sector in Liberia.
