The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Accra has received confirmed information regarding the death of a Liberian national, Mr. Austin Tengbeh, aged 26, following an incident that occurred on 27 February 2026 in the Lashibi–Sakumono area of Accra.
The Embassy was informed of the matter on 28 February 2026 and immediately initiated contact with the relevant authorities of the Republic of Ghana, including the Crime Unit of the Sakumono District Police, to obtain verified details and to ensure that appropriate procedures are being followed.
According to information provided by the Ghana Police Service, the matter is currently under active investigation. The Embassy has been informed that arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved.
We understand that Mr. Tengbeh, a resident of the Spintex area, had gone to visit a fellow Liberian at a residential property in Lashibi when an altercation occurred, which subsequently led to the unfortunate events now under investigation. The Embassy notes that the Ghana Police Service responded to the scene and transported Mr. Tengbeh to the Sakumono Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Embassy has been in communication with individuals connected to the incident, members of the Liberian community in Ghana, and the appropriate Ghanaian authorities. We are also making efforts to formally reach and engage the next of kin in order to provide appropriate consular assistance and support.
The Embassy will continue to follow the matter closely and will remain actively engaged with the relevant Ghanaian authorities to ensure that the matter proceeds in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana.
The Embassy extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Mr. Tengbeh. The Government of Liberia shares the deep sorrow of the Liberian community at this tragic loss and assures them of its full commitment to following this matter to its conclusion.
We urge members of the Liberian community in Ghana to remain calm and allow the ongoing investigations to proceed. We remain confident in the due process of law and in the longstanding cordial relations between the Republic of Liberia and the Republic of Ghana.
