Monrovia, July 16, 2025 – In a major push to modernize the country’s healthcare system, the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Heath has begun installing state-of-the-art laboratory equipment in health facilities across the country, a move expected to significantly improve diagnostic capabilities and patient care.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Health through its National Diagnostic Division, includes the deployment of chemistry analyzers, Complete Blood Count (CBC) machines, and other essential diagnostic tools. The goal, according to health officials, is to strengthen clinical laboratory services and increase access to reliable testing systems especially in rural and underserved communities.
“These upgrades are part of our national strategy to improve early detection, monitoring, and treatment of both communicable and non-communicable diseases,” a Ministry spokesperson said through the release. “That includes conditions like diabetes, kidney and liver diseases, and various blood infections that often go undiagnosed due to equipment shortages.”
Installations have already kicked off at G.W. Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, and are expanding to several regional and county referral hospitals. The Ministry is prioritizing facilities with the infrastructure needed to support the new technology, aiming to create a ripple effect that improves care at all levels of the health system in Liberia.
To sustain the impact of the investment, the Ministry has also announced ongoing training programs for laboratory technicians and biomedical engineers. These sessions will focus on both the operation and maintenance of the new machines, ensuring long-term functionality and improved diagnostic outcomes nationwide.
